Christopher Columbus hasn't got a thing over Bartholomew Dias. Bartolomeu Dias, a nobleman of the Portuguese royal household, was a Portuguese explorer. He sailed around the southernmost tip of Africa in 1488, the first European known to have done so. We decided to hike to the monument that has been erected in his honor. It was about a five mile "hike?" right along the shoreline of the beach. This monument has been erected in his honor.
This is a view from the bottom of the monument. He must have been quite a sailor to land his ship in these treacherous waters.
Our friends, Elder and Sister Boyce, from St. George, Utah were with us. We love these two. They are our surrogate family here in South Africa. They go home in three months. We will be sad to see them go. We have way too much fun together.
